God is Love, Love Is God: An Experiment
What if we could experience God more deeply—not just in church, not just in prayer, but in every single moment of our lives? The Bible tells us something profound:
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
Not just that God has love. Not just that God gives love. But that God is love. So here’s an experiment: For one day, replace the word “love” with “God” and vice versa.
- “I God you with all my heart.”
- “I am walking in God today.”
- “Love is my refuge and strength.”
At first, it feels strange. Maybe even uncomfortable. But if God is love, then isn’t love divine, sacred, and holy? Think about what changes:
- Are you more careful about throwing the word “Love” around when you realize you are refering to God?
- Do you recognize even simple acts of love toward both friends and strangers as invoking God’s actual presence?
- Do we start to feel God’s nearness in everyday kindness, in joy, in grace?
Try this experiment today. Speak it. Think it. Let it shift your awareness. As always, pray up on this and go with what God guides you. My hunch is that when you begin to explore the idea that Love is not just an act; it is the SUBSTANCE of God . . . everything changes . . .
